NEPA BlogCon 2012 was held on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at the Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) Campus Bldg 7 in Nanticoke, PA.  Over $2000 was raised for the two selected charities The Arc of Luzerne County and the NEPA Veterans Multicare Alliance

The Arc of Luzerne County

The Arc of Luzerne County is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and their families.

The Arc is a group of consumers, parents, siblings, relatives, friends, and professionals interested in seeing that the rights of people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (ID/D) are upheld and that needed services are provided.

The Arc is devoted to providing information, encouraging the development of well-coordinated and integrated services, monitoring the quality of programs, and most importantly, working on behalf of the person with IDD and his/her family to assist in the enhancement and development of skills, attainment of services, and resolution of problems.

The Arc is a private, non-profit membership based organization guided by a volunteer board of directors.

The Arc of Luzerne County is affiliated with The Arc of the United States, The Arc of Pennsylvania, and more
than 700 state and local chapters throughout the country. We are a member agency of the United Way of Wyoming Valley.

The NEPA Veterans Multicare Alliance

NEPA Veterans Multicare Alliance is a non-profit all volunteer service organization of veterans dedicated to helping veterans and their families navigate through government and community based provider systems to obtain information, benefits, and services. We assist clients to develop a unique plan to meet individual and family needs, and work in collaboration with other community based service providers to help meet those objectives.

The mission of NEPA VMA is to increase access to services and keep veterans and their families informed of benefits and assistance available to them in order to improve reintegration, transition and stability.

NEPA VMA provides free consultations to veterans and their family members. These consultations include a comprehensive overview of support, benefits, and assistance in a variety of areas, including health care, education, employment, housing, and day-to-day living.

Brent is a professional photographer who abandoned his Creative Writing degree to become a visual storyteller. He maintains two websites and blogs; his professional site, brentpennington.com, where he focuses on his client work (commerical, portraiture, and wedding photography), and his personal site, therovingphotographer.com, where he pursues wildlife and nature photography, talks about techniques and gear, and generally hangs out. He’s a native step-son of NEPA, having moved to Pennsylvania four years ago and fallen in love with it. He’ll be taking photos throughout the day and is a panelist for the Using Media Effectively session.

Greg Pugh is the owner of GP Animations. His blog, www.GPAnimationsBlog.com, covers mobile application development, software and device reviews. His Colin Turtle eBook apps (http://www.ColinTurtle.com) have sold thousands of copies worldwide and his animated cartoons have been shown in the Atlanta Animation Attack Film Festival. He developed a cartoon concept with the help of Joe Murray, creator of Rocko’s Modern Life & Camp Lazlo, that Greg hopes to turn into a comic book app series in the future. Greg will be co-running the panel on Mobile.

Justin Vacula is an outspoken atheist and community activist from Northeastern Pennsylvania who is the co-organizer, spokesperson, and a board member of the NEPA Freethought Society – a social, educational, activist, and philosophical community group. Vacula is best-known for challenging the constitutionality of a courthouse holiday display in 2009 and proposing what was called ‘the most inoffensive atheist bus ad ever’ (which was rejected). He publishes blog posts on skepticblogs.com, is the host of the NEPA Freethought Society Podcast, and writes articles for Examiner.com as the ‘Scranton Atheism Examiner.’ Find him on Twitter @JustinVacula. Adam Ceresko
Adam is CEO of APPEK Mobile Apps, a leading mobile app agency building apps for leading companies around the world. Most notably is Face Invaders, which was named Gizmodo’s iPhone App of the Day. In addition to APPEK, Adam recently co-founded Pathmapp, a mobile A/B Testing platform the just launched at TechCrunch Disrupt SF. Adam lives in Scranton, enjoys playing golf, blasting EDM and using all things Apple.
